Horse riding by Kailzie Equestrian Centre

Kailzie Equestrian Centre, situated in the picturesque countryside southwest of the Scottish Borders town of Peebles, in the heart of excellent riding country. The centre caters for all abilities and offers hacking and trekking activities and lessons for children and adults.

Trekking is for beginners. For the very nervous person or young children, the centre’s staff perform ‘a lead’ and accompany the rider on foot, walking the horse along the trails. A beginner’s trek is for novice riders or people competent only at walk and trot. These treks usually involve crossing small tributaries to the River Tweed and around nearby woodland on trails.

The centre also offers hacking which is for the more skilled who must be able to walk the horse, do a rising trot and canter. Riders will follow the same trails as those on a trek. Most of the riding is off-road using, tracks and forest paths.

At certain times of the year, the centre also arranges beach rides, for example at John Muir Country Park near Dunbar (Edinburgh and the Lothians).
