For centuries nature and people have lived in harmony in Rothiemurchus. At its heart lies one of the largest areas of natural forest in Britain with an extraordinary variety of wildlife.
Journey down the river Spey with us, using touring kayaks specially designed to be stable, comfortable and easy to paddle. The experience is guided by expert kayak guides who will teach you skills and guide you safely on this amazing way to see the Cairngorms National park from a comfortable kayak seat.
Our flat water canoeing takes place on Loch an Eilein, a truly magical place right at the heart of the ancient Rothiemurchus Pine forest. If you haven’t done it before don’t worry, our friendly experienced staff will show you how to handle your canoe, giving you the confidence to enjoy this exciting sport. The canoes are light (around 30kg), stable and carry two adults, or two adults plus two small children. The Loch is very sheltered and is the perfect place to relax, explore some wonderful highland scenery and to chat with your guide and new found friends. Look out for wildlife, paddle round the ruined castle and hear tales of Jacobite plots and the notorious Wolf of Badenoch. Loch an Eilein canoe sessions will consist of a safety brief, teaching of basic paddling skills, a couple of fun games for all ages and then a gentle explore of the Loch and its amazing history.
